Abstract

929,264. Cutting apparatus. CLARKSON, BROOKE & CO. Ltd. Sept. 21, 1969 [June 27, 1958], No. 20689/58. Class 31 (1). A device for cutting material, e.g. for garment parts, having two layers 16, 17 secured together by stitching threads 21 comprises a plate 15 for temporarily separating the layers and a pair of cutters 2, 3 mounted on a driven shaft 1, the arrangement being such that the cutters 2, 3 cut the layers 17, 16, respectively, so as to form a pair of spaced-apart cut edges. The plate 15 has a blade 20 for cutting the threads 21 to allow the material to be correctly positioned on a work-table 14. The cutter 2 is adjustable axially relative to the cutter 3. The material is fed by hand or by means of two pairs of rollers 22, 23, the rollers 22, which may be spring-loaded, being driven from the shaft 1 and the rear pair of rollers preferably being adapted to apply tension to the material. The shafts 24 of the rollers 22 are mounted in a bearing hingedly mounted on the work-table. The layer 16 may be held down by hand or by means of a presser foot 19 which may be transparent and hingedly or otherwise mounted for easy displacement.
