Abstract
859,750. Cutting sheet materials. WALSH, R. J., and KENNEDY, J. W. Aug. 6, 1957, No. 24699/57. Class 31 (1). Apparatus for forming a groove 6, Fig. 1, in a blank 26, for use in the quarter binding of books, comprises a table 9, means 18 for guiding a lateral edge of the blank, means, such as rubber rollers 14 and an idler roller 19, for feeding the blank along the means 18, a pair of spaced and parallel coaxial rotary cutters 12 projecting through a slot 10 in the table and a horizontal chisel 11 extending through the slot 10 and presenting its cutting edge to the blank between the edges of the cutters 12. The rollers 14 are mounted on a shaft 13 rotated by a motor-driven pulley 17 and, in conjunction with the roller 19, mounted on the eccentrically-turned end 20 of a shaft 21 and adjustable relative to the rollers 14 by turning a handle 22 rigid with the shaft, feed the blank to the chisel 11. The angle of the chisel relative to the blank is adjustable by a screw 23.
