Abstract

704,183. Cutting-apparatus. TIMSONS Ltd., and TIMSON, E. A. July '21, 1952 [Aug. 2, 1951], No. 18330/51. Class 31 (1) In apparatus for cutting a travelling web W of paper or like sheet material into sheets comprising a fixed knife 13 and a knife 10 set in a rotary component 9, the knives being mounted for adjustment together in a subframe extending across the path of the web, and the sub-frame being pivotally mounted at one side of the web path and furnished at the opposite side with adjusting screw means, the sub-frame comprises two end members 1 connected by a cross piece 2 and arranged to seat on bars 5 bolted at 6 to the inner surfaces of two side frame members 7 of a printing or other machine, the end members being provided with bearings 8 to receive the ends of the shaft of, or trunnions on, the rotary component 9, and an adjustable carrier bar 12 for the fixed knife being secured to the cross piece. One end of one of the bars 5 is provided with a dowel pin 18 which constitutes the pivot of the sub-frame and engages in a hole in the underside of the end member 1 at that side while a bracket 19 for two screws 20, 21 is provided at the opposite end of the bar 5 at the other end of the sub-frame. By manipulating the screws 20, 21 the sub-frame can be adjusted and swivelled to one side or other of the pivot 18, the sub-frame being secured in position after adjustment by means of studs 22. The knife 13 is set obliquely to the longitudinal edges of the web and the cutting edge of the knife intersects the axis of the component 9 at a constant angle.
