Abstract

1319608 Guiding webs ALEXEFF-SYNDER ENTERPRISES Inc 7 Oct 1970 [6 April 1970] 47691/70 Heading B8R Web guiding and expanding apparatus comprising a pair of roll assemblies for controlling the edge position of a web with each roll assembly operating on a respective edge of the web and each comprising a shaft with one end mounted on a pivotal support mounted for pivotal movement in a plane perpendicular to the plane of the web so as to cause arcuate movement of said end of the shaft toward and away from the respective edge of the web for decreasing and increasing the angle of the roll relative to the plane of the web to vary the bite of the roll into the web, the shaft being relatively fixed at its other end, and both ends being supported in spherical bearings to permit such angular movement. Two sets of rollers 47, 48, 50 extend across the full width of the web. Each roller 50 has a fixed pivot at one end 55 the other end 56 being pivoted to a lever 61 which can be actuated by a pneumatic edge sensor to vary the bite of the roller into the web edge. The fixed ends 55, 54, 56 of the rollers are carried in an adjustable plate so that the cant of the rollers can be adjusted. In a modification (Fig. 1-4, not shown) each set of rollers extends only half the way across the width of the web.
