Abstract

1362604 Feeding webs TOYO MACHINERY CO Ltd 15 Feb 1972 [16 Nov 1971] 6997/72 Heading B8R Apparatus for spreading a fabric web transversely comprises rotary discs 1 facing one surface of the web R at the opposite side edges thereof and push plates 2 facing the other surface of the web in opposing relationship with said discs and movable under the control of sensing means 7, towards and away from said discs, and at least two parallel rollers 41 positioned at each side edge of the web for feeding the web therebetween, the rollers being angularly adjustable. The discs may have annular projections (3), Fig. 3 (not shown), corresponding with grooves in the push plates 2 which, when arms 7 sense the web edge as being rolled, are urged pneumatically towards the rotating discs 1 which spread out the web. Additionally, rubber coated rollers 41, downstream of the discs, are moved, either manually or under the control of the pneumatic system, such as to feed the web edges in a direction divergent from the main web feed so as to assist the spreading operation, and thereafter convergent with respect to the main web feed until the web edge position is restored.
