1360191 Guiding webs MOLINS Ltd 22 July 1971 [23 April 1970] 19596/70 Heading B8R A decurling or turning bar 1 for use in web feeding apparatus is formed with a flat or concave surface 4 bounded by two spaced edges 6 and has an axially extending manifold 3 to which air is supplied under pressure; in use, air passes from the manifold 3 to the surface 4 through passages 5, which act as restrictors, and issues from the passages into a chamber 4A defined by the web 2 and the bar and lying between the two edges which thus form partial seals restricting the escape of air from the chamber so that an air bearing is formed between the web and the bar. When the web is being unwound from a reel, the bar 1 may be mounted so that the amount of decurling applied to the web increases as the radius of the reel decreases (Fig. 3, not shown). In another application the web may be passed in alternate directions round a succession of bars arranged to apply a decurling action to the web in opposite directions, the bars being mounted on two baseplates with successive bars on different baseplates and the base-plates being relatively movable so that the amount of decurling applied to the web can be increased or decreased (Fig. 5, not shown).
