Abstract

1340360 Paper-making apparatus OVERLY Inc 19 April 1971 [3 April 1970] 26248/71 Heading D2A [Also in Division B8] An airfoil nozzle web stabilizer 6 has a substantially tubular plenum chamber 7 with an air supply pipe 9 connected to it and an air discharge slot 11 extending the length of it a foil surface 10 having a curved portion merging with a flat portion being provided and the slot and the foil surface being so shaped and arranged that in operation air discharging from the slot flows substantially tangential to the curved portion of the foil surface 10 and thereafter closely adjacent the flat portion, the end portions of the chamber 7 and the slot 11 being angularly offset from each other so that the air flow at one end portion has a lateral directional component opposite and away from that at the other end portion. A web of paper 1 leaving a sizing- press roll 2 of a paper-making machine has the stabilizer 6 disposed below it and a second similar stabilizer 5 disposed above, it, the stabilizers acting to remove wrinkles or waves 4 from the web.
