Abstract
1,085,311. Paper-making. CONSOLIDATED PAPERS Inc. Sept. 28, 1964 [Oct. 9, 1963], No. 39476/64. Heading D2A. In a process of forming on a suction forming roll printing papers having a mineral content of not less than 3%, by physically confining a stock suspension against a forming surface on the roll - as by means of a stock nozzle plate 50 - the stock suspension is maintained under positive pressure throughout the area of confinement, with the pressure progressively decreasing from the inlet end to the outlet end of said area. In the machine described, nozzle plate 50 logarithmically converges towards the roll 10 from the inlet end of the forming zone to the outlet end. The stock supply means 20 are pivotally mounted at 18 and comprise a plurality of supply pipes 26 having expansion joints to accommodate the pivoting of means 20, a flow chamber 28, and a nozzle 30 having plate 50 pivotally mounted at 44 and adjustable by jacks 46 and 56. Seals (Figs. 3 and 4 not shown) are provided for the edges of plate 50. Roll 10 has a plurality of suction boxes individually adjustable, and a wire sleeve or belt trained around it.
