Apparatus for drying or removing surface liquid from a horizontally moving web 1 comprises air boxes A, A1 arranged above and below the web, low pressure air issuing from substantially V-shaped slots a, a<SP>1</SP> in the boxes on to inclined plates B, B<SP>1</SP> so as to be directed on to both surfaces of the web in counterflow to the direction of travel of the web. The plates are adjustable to vary the width of the slots and the boxes may be of arrow-head formation. Specification 787,281 is referred to.
