Abstract

1373249 Paper-making apparatus H F ARLEDTER DIPL Ing 16 Nov 1971 [16 Nov 1970] 53232/71 Heading D2A A paper-making machine comprises wires 1, 2 which converge as they extend past suction boxes 7.. 16 to provide a tapered gap 4 for receiving a fibrous suspension from a chamber 19, the suction in the boxes being individually adjustable whereby the speed of the suspension through the gap can be maintained substantially the same as the speed of the wires. At the gap inlet the wires extend over further suction boxes 17, 18, and the boxes 7..18 are adjustable for varying the dimensions of the gap. The chamber 19 has two feed conduits 20, 21 and a return conduit 22 whereby the pressure of the suspension can be adjusted, and it contains rotatable perforated rollers 23, 24, rotatable members 25, 26 and a rotatable cylinder 27 for creating turbulence. Vibrators 28, 29 and 30 for the chamber 19 and suction boxes 7..16 operate at frequencies greater than 50 cycles per second. After the gap 4 the wires 1, 2, extend past suction boxes 31 grooved cylinders 32 and cylinders 33. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the suspension flows downwardly from a box the bottom of which is formed by the wires 1, 2 extending over suction boxes disposed prior to the suction boxes forming the gap which extends downwardly, alternate suction boxes at each side of the gap being subject to greater suction than the opposed boxes at the opposite side whereby the flow of suspension through the gap is of serpentine form. The suspension box has a plurality of feed conduits and return conduits.
