Abstract

1358197 Headboxes BELOIT CORP 26 Aug 1971 [31 Aug 1970] 40150/71 Heading D2A A headbox for a paper-making machine comprises a slice chamber 12 which tapers from a transversely extending perforated plate 19 to a slice opening S, and trailing flexible elements 25 extending from the plate 19 and forming converging channels 22 in the chamber 12. The elements 25 are planar and are formed from wire which may be coated, and upstream of the plate 19 they have rods 28 which may be cylindrical, flat, blunt or tear-drop in shape and which facilitate movement of stock past them. The elements may be the same thickness along their length or they may taper towards their free ends. The slice opening is adjustable by worm gear devices or fluid pressure operated means 20. In a second embodiment, Figs. 5 to 8 (not shown), the elements are corrugated plates and the size of the corrugations may diminish towards the free ends of the elements. The elements may be secured in dove-tailed grooves in the plate 19 by clamps, Fig. 9 (not shown).
