Abstract

1,199,035. Paper- and board-making. KARLSTADS MEKANISKA WERKSTAD A.B. 24 July, 1967 [9 Sept., 1966], No. 33901/67. Heading D2A. A fibre web formed on a board machine is dewatered in a nip between two press plates. A bottom wire travels with the web along the lower press plate and a top wire or felt along the top plate, but the plates do not travel with the web and wires or wire and felt. At least one of the plates is perforated and at least one is movable to vary both its distance from and its inclination to the other by forces whose resultant is applied to the plate downstream of its transverse centreline and which are adjustable so that the total magnitude and distribution of pressure over the plates are substantially constant in spite of transient variations in the thickness and drainage properties of the web. As shown, upper and lower press plates 35 and 37 are mounted at a nangle to one another, the lower being fixed on a frame 39. The upper plate 37 is pivoted on pins 41 to levers 43, on a line downstream of its centre. The levers 43 are in turn pivoted to the frame 39. Pressure devices 47 and 49 (pneumatic, hydraulic or mechanical) press the levers 43 and plate 37 downwards. A power fabric 7 carries the wire 5, the web 57 and a top wire 25 through the nip. Both plates are provided with gutters and perforations (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown) to lead away the water pressed out of the web. Fig. 1 (not shown) shows the press acting on the web before the couch of a Fourdrinier machine.
