Abstract

1,028,349. Paper-making apparatus. MILLSPAUGH Ltd. Sept. 7, 1964 [Sept. 14, 1963], No. 36262/63. Heading D2A. A de-watering device for the wire 1 of a papermaking machine comprises an element 15 of aerofoil section mounted transversely below the wire so that the headbox end of the element is spaced from the wire with contact being made with the wire towards the other end of the element, there being perforations extending through the element through which water from the wire passes. The element is mounted at one end by stem 14 in pivot hole 11 and at the end by stem 18 which can move vertically in hole 16. The height of the element can be altered by screw 7 and its inclination with respect to the wire by screws 21. A suction chamber may be formed beneath the element to collect the water, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown). The perforations may be holes or slots, while the element 15 may take various shapes, Fig. 7 and 8 (not shown). The element may be situated between table rolls, or a series of the elements may support the wire themselves.
