Abstract

1,024,935. Paper-making apparatus. R. C. HEYS. Sept. 1,1964 [Sept 6,1963],No 35229/63. Heading D2A. A doctor 19 positioned underneath a Fourdrinier wire 4 has a lip 20 making contact transversely of the wire, and a perforated extension 19 on the headbox side of the lip with a surface 21 co-extensive with the length of the lip and sloping downwardly from the wire. The doctor may be moved towards the wire by screw 11, or to or from table roll 1 along beam 5, or the extension moved nearer the wire by rotating the doctor by means of screw 13 about shaft 12. Water from the wire drains into shaft 12 and is removed therefrom by free drainage, or by suction by means of a pump or a flow of high velocity air. The doctor may be formed of fibre reinforced plastics material and have rolls attached thereto to relieve the weight of the wire on the actual doctor. There may be a series of doctors separated by table rolls, while a chamber 30, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), may enclose a number of rolls and doctors, the wire engaging parts of the sides and ends of the chamber being of fibre reinforced plastics material, and a suction conduit being attached to the chamber.
