681,549 Supplying pulp to Fourdrinier paper-making machines. MILLSPAUGH, Ltd. June 16, 1950. [June 27, 1949] No. 16927/49. Class 96. Pulp for a Fourdrinier papermaking machine flows upwardly at 2, along a, tapering, zig-zag passage 7 which includes a rotatable flow-evener roll 65 to a tapering flow-box outlet passage 18, along an extension-plate 20 of the flexible apron 21 which extends well beyond the outlet of the flow-box, and on to the wirecloth 22. The top wall 24 of the passage 18 is hinged at 25 and is adjusted vertically at both ends by hand-wheels 26 and 39, &c., local adjustment across the width of the machine being provided by hand-wheels 41. &c. On the top wall 24 is a tube 29 &c. providing a channel outlet 31. for surplus pulp, a doctor 35 and a wedge-piece 33 contacting the tube 29, the latter having provision for water under pressure at 34. A wall 12a is also adjustable (at 1.4) for discharge at 27 of surplus pulp which joins that from the outlet 31 and flows off at 32 for re-use. Openings at 36, 15 and 6 allow air to escape from the pulp, any pulp escaping at 15, or 6, being withdrawn at 17 &c. A flow-evener roll 53, adjusted at 54, may be provided above the breast roll 23 and one or more slices 56 adjusted at 58 may be provided at various positions. Foam is reduced by water or white water sprays 63. Metal deckles 45 are supported at 51, 52, and are channelled &c. for compressed air which flows out through rubber strips bonded along the lower face of the deckle.
