Abstract

744,109. Flow-boxes of paper-making- machines. ACO MACHINERY CORPORATION, [formerly BAGLEY & SEWALL CO.]. Oct. 27, 1953 [Nov. 6, 1952], No. 29648/53. Class 96. Paper pulp from inlets 40 feeding a transverse pipe 21 in a concrete block at the base of a flow-box of a Fourdrinier paper-making machine flows past a succession of approximately streamline baffles 42 and 51, all of which are adjustable vertically, and which, by disturbing the pulp flow help to prevent the formation of fibre-flocs or clots; the pulp also passing over a bafflewall 28 (which is in sections 29 ... 34) on its way towards a flow-evener roll (which comprises transverse discs 93 and longitudinal rods 94) and to the outlet of the flow-box. Some air entrained with the pulp escapes to the top of the box, and some escapes through a slot 84 and is drawn off by a suction pipe 86. The outlet lip 120 is hinged, and is adjusted locally by a series of screws 135 &c. and adjusted generally by a hand-wheel 125 and worms &c., to and fro adjustment being provided by a hand wheel 112 &c. Part of the pulp flows through a gap 36 at the foot of the wall 28.
