Abstract

1,163,843. Papermaking; impregnating webs. MEAD CORP. 27' Sept., 1966 [27 Sept., 1965], No. 25764/68. Divided out of 1163842. Headings D1L and D2A. Apparatus for incorporating additive dispersions into wet webs of paper following formation thereof comprises means for transporting a formed wet web in a generally upward direction while sandwiched between upper and lower porous supporting elements, a headbox above the upper element at a point where the upper element is in contact with the wet web to supply additive dispersion through the upper element and into the web, and vacuum means opposite the headbox and in contact with the underside of the lower element. As shown, the wet web trom the wire 13 of a paper machine is couched on to a top wire or fabric 35 and then sandwiched .between this and a bottom wire or fabric 42. Additive dispersion is supplied to headbox_50 through pipe 51. Apron 53 is made of flexible material and engages the upper side of wire 35. Suction boxes 54 lie opposite and following the headbox, and material passing into them is removed through pipe 55, and may be adjusted to desired concentration and recycled. After impregnation, the web is transferred to press felt 25. This apparatus may be used in the process of Specification 1163842.
