Abstract
1,129,893. Paper-making. BELOIT CORP. 22 Nov., 1965 [18 Jan., 1965], No. 49532/65. Heading D2A. A paper web-for example tissue-is formed by flowing a slurry on to a wire between a breast roll and a couch roll and pressing a felt against the wire in the forming zone. The felt is pressed against the wire by a roll, or by a shoe having a solid arcuate surface of generally increasing radius of curvature, with the shoe optionally being preceded by a roll, and/or succeeded by a roll of small radius or the shoe itself having a final sharp curvature so that dewatering is aided by centrifugal force. A foil may be disposed beneath the wire to remove water from the underneath thereof before the couch roll is reached. A plurality of rolls rotated in synchronism may drive the felt and wire. The press-section may have a Yankee drier, and optionally grooved press rolls. ,The couch roll may be grooved.
