Abstract

1353186 Paper-making apparatus ESCHER WYSS GmbH 7 May 1971 [8 May 1970] 13779/71 Heading D2A A paper-making machine comprises wires 2', 3' providing single wire parts 2, 3 and a twin wire part 1, a common headbox 5 being arranged over the wire parts, and suction boxes 6 to 13 being arranged adjacent the single wire parts and being adjustable separately in respect of their suction. Foils 16 are provided along the twin wire part 1. The wires extend over suction rolls 17, 18 and a pick up device 19 is also provided, the headbox 5 is subject to atmospheric pressure and guides 21, 22 are provided adjacent the single wire parts 2, 3, the guide 22 being adjustable and dividing the suspension into portions flowing into the twin wire part 1 and other portions flowing upwardly along the guide 22. A conduit 25 in the guide 22 serves for feeding additions to the wires. The suspension is fed to the headbox by pipes 26, 27, and overflows 28, 29 are provided. The outlets of the pipes 26, 27 are adjustable in position relative to the single wire parts 2, 3. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the headbox is divided into chambers by vertically extending adjustable partitions the lower ends of which lies adjacent the single wire parts and are formed as guides. The chambers are fed separately with suspensions which may vary as to solid particle content whereby a layered sheet may be formed. In a third embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown) the single wire parts 2, 3 extend upwardly to the rolls 17. In a fourth embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), the downwardly extending single wire parts 2, 3 are preceded by upwardly extending single wire parts, the wires being deflected by suction rolls disposed between the upwardly and downwardly extending parts. A guide roll is disposed in the headbox adjacent each single wire part 2, 3 and the roll may be rotated so that its surface speed is the same as or different from that of the wire part. The portion of each single wire part 2, 3 preceding the guide roll is fed with a suspension or additions separately from the portion of the wire part succeeding the guide roll. The guide 22 feeds directly into the twin wire part 1 and may be used to feed material between the two layers formed on the single wire parts 2, 3. Drained liquid is recirculated, one circuit shown in Fig. 1 is for the additions-containing liquid from the rolls 17 which is refined and prepared in a device 43. The guides 21 and 22 and the guide rolls of the fourth embodiment may be oscillated at at least thirty periods per second.
