Abstract

1,124,156. Web drier. HUYCK CORP. 6 Oct., 1966 [19 Oct., 1965], No. 44772/66. Heading F4G. In a paper web drying apparatus, the web is directed about heated rollers 10, 11, 12, 31, 32, 33 by endless pervious belts 16, 34 through each of which gas is caused to migrate by at least one vane 28 or 30 which extends the width of the belt, is of aerofoil shape, and which has the leading edge positioned within the gas entrained by movement of the belt. The surface of the vane facing the belt either converges towards or diverges from the belt, so that the vane acts together with the entrained gas to induce an increase or reduction of pressure respectively in the zone between the vane surface and the belt to cause gas migration through the belt. Two vanes 28, 30 may be positioned in close proximity on opposite sides of the belt, one diverging towards and the other converging from the belt.
