Abstract

1322591 Paper-making ESCHER WYSS GmbH 13 Aug 1970 [14 Aug 1969 22 Oct 1969] 39145/70 Heading D2A A plate 1 disposed between an inlet and an outlet of a headbox and extending over the width of a web to be formed has parallel ducts 2 each of which is widened after an initial portion 5 with a transition angle α between successive portions of at least 100‹. The inlet edge 3 of each duct is rounded or bevelled and the outlet edge 4 is rounded. The crosssection of each duct may be circular or hexagonal. The angle α may be 180‹ with the corner of the step formed being rounded. Each duct portion may widen in the direction of stock throughflow with an angle not greater than 3‹. Stock may be fed to the plate by a cross-flow conduit, Fig. 3 (not shown), which decreases in cross-section, the speed of stock flow at the inlet of the conduit being 45 to 85% of that in the portions 5 of the ducts. Stock passed through the ducts may be subject to pressure from a compressed air cushion, Fig. 6 (not shown). In another embodiment, Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown), the ducts are arranged in rows and the duct portions other than the initial portions 5 merge into one another in the direction of the respective rows. The plate 1 may be formed from individual parts glued to one another, Fig. 11 (not shown).
