Abstract

1,026,276. Paper-making apparatus. KARLSTADS MEKANISKA WERKSTAD A.B. April 11, 1963 [April 12, 1962], No. 14480/63. Heading D2A. A headbox for a paper-making machine is provided with a transverse perforated plate 15 for spreading and evening out transversely the flow of pulp and with an obstacle 29 arranged close to and downstream of the plate 15 and having openings 31 offset in relation to the holes 27 of plate 15 so that the jets of pulp are deflected through the openings 31. As shown in Fig. 1 the obstacle comprises a second perforated plate but alternatively a number of parallel spaced rods may be used. To prevent any further tendency for cross-flow a third perforated plate, with its holes in line with those of the first plate, and/or vanes 33, with their spacing being a multiple of the horizontal spacing of the holes in the perforated plates, or a number of parallel spaced rods, may be inserted. Holes 27 in plate 15 have a frusto-conical opening, and have a smaller diameter than holes 31 in plate 29 which have a smaller diameter than the holes in the third perforated plate (if present).
