Abstract

1,148,674. Papermaking. BELOIT CORP. 14 June, 1966 [4 Aug., 1965], No. 26522/66. Heading D2A. A headbox for a paper machine comprises two spaced side walls, a slice opening and bleed openings in the side walls upstream of and close to the slice opening. Embodiments are described having a single opening in each side wall (Figs. 1 and 3, not shown), two openings in each side wall, one upstream of the other (Figs. 1 and 4, not shown), a single opening and a row of vertically spaced openings upstream of the single opening in each side wall (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown), and a single round opening and a slot opening upstream of it in each side wall (Fig. 7, not shown). Each opening may have a valve to control the rate of flow of stock through it; in the case of slot openings, these may be valve plates mounted on the side walls and slidable over the openings.
