Abstract

1,160,699. Paper-making apparatus. JOHNSON WIRE WORKS Ltd. 25 Nov., 1966 [24 Jan, 1966], No. 52790/66. Heading D2A. A drainage foil 26 or suction box having a suction portion 34 and a land portion 32 supporting a fourdrinier wire 20 is provided with a wear resistant insert 38 secured in a groove 40 in the land portion 32. The insert 38 and groove 40 may be of dovetail section as shown or of inverted T-section (Fig. 6). The insert 38 may be composed entirely of abrasion resistant material, such as silicon carbide, and may comprise short lengths disposed end to end. Alternatively the insert may comprise stainless steel with a coating (46, Fig. 5) of abrasion resistant material, e.g. tungsten carbide, on its wire engaging face. The foil 26 may comprise high density polyethylene.
