Abstract

1,118,290. Papermaking. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS Inc. 18 Oct., 1966 [24 Oct., 1965], No. 46562/66. Heading D2A. In a papermaking machine in which a travelling screen is drawn over one or more suction boxes, the suction box has a cover with a screen-contacting surface and a channel in that surface extending wholly or substantially wholly across the cover in the cross-machine direction to supply liquid between the screen and the cover. As shown, a suction box has a cover 20 provided with openings 26 and channels 27. The cover may comprise segments mounted side by side with their channels in line. The liquid may be water and serves to lubricate the screen. Chemicals may be added to it for lubricating or cleaning purposes, for colouring or to eliminate pitch.
