Abstract

609,503. Suction boxes of Fourdrinier paper-making machines &c. CLARK, C. L. Dec. 19, 1945, No. 34443. [Class 96] The tops of suction box compartments of a Fourdrinier or like paper-making machine are slotted at 26 and support a travelling band 12 of rubber &c., e.g. made in longitudinal sections held together by transverse wires or rods 41, which has longitudinal drainage openings 30 with bevelled tops providing linear support for the wirecloth 11, the length of the openings 30 being at least as great as the distance between centres of adjacent slots 26 so as to provide a constant unobstructed suction area. The band 12 is driven by the wire-cloth 11, and has side deckle parts which pass over perforations 27, and may have ridges near its edges and projecting from its inner surface to engage grooves, in the rollers 13, 14 about which the band travels, to guide the band.
