Abstract
1,233,271. Headbox for paperinaking machines. BELOIT CORP. 21 Aug., 1968 [29 Aug., 1967], No. 39944/68. Heading D2A. A headbox 10 has a housing defining a receiving chamber 42, an exit chamber 34 incuding a slice opening 32, an inlet 44 in the housing 11, delivery means 46 connected to the inlet for delivering pulp to the receiving chamber, and a plurality of distinct passages comprising an apertured plate 40 forming at least a part of one wall of the receiving chamber; an apertured exit plate 39 forming at least part of one wall of the exit chamber, and a plurality of angled tubes 41 connected between the plates; and turbulence generator means positioned in the exit chamber between the passages and the slice opening. The headbox may be supported by pivotable connections 17 and 21 and jacks 23 on support beams 19 and 26 so that the position of the slice opening 32 may be varied with respect to the wire 29, - and stock directed between wires 29 and 30. The slice may be formed with a flexible exit plate 51 supported by a movable slanted wall portion 36, conforming to wall 35, having a seal 38 between them. The slice aperture as a whole may be changed by means of jacks 48, and turnbuckles 56 placed at intervals across the slice may be adjusted to give local variations.
