Abstract

1,062,914. Headboxes. BELOIT CORPORATION. Oct. 7, 1963 [Oct. 5, 1962; Feb. 15, 1963], No. 38475/63. Heading D2A. Headbox 10 of a paper-making machine is modified from that described in Specification 1,047,952 in that some of the rows 16, 30 &c. of rods which produce progressively smaller scale turbulent flow in the pulp as slice 11 is approached, with the turbulent flow from one row impinging on the next row, are formed by two sets of rod 31, 32 &c. projecting downstream from the top and bottom walls 14 and 12. Rods 13 may be directly above rods 32 or laterally offset therefrom. The rods in each row are smaller in diameter and closer together than those in the upstream rows. Preferred values, both relative and absolute, of the diameter and spacing of the rods are given. The rods which may have a cross-section other than circular are mounted in plates 18, 33 &c. held in grooves in walls 12 and 14. Perforated plate 13 forms the pulp into high speed jets which impinge on rods 16.
