Abstract
1,115,030. Paper-making apparatus. ESCHER WYSS G.m.b.H. 2 June, 1965 [13 June; 1964], No. 23861/65. Heading D2A. A flow spreader in a paper-making machine includes a chamber 1 of approximately pearshaped cross-section and having a wall 4, a bulged wall 25 opposite thereto to form a space in which some of the pulp whirls, and a pulp inlet 9 arranged so that the pulp enters the chamber tangentially and at an angle to the whirling pulp of less than 30. A perforated roll 17, a perforated plate, or an imperforate roller is provided at the exit 16 to the chamber, unless the exit is of considerably reduced cross-section. Upstream of inlet 9 there may be a flow spreading chamber 6 which may be tapered. In Fig. 6 (not shown) the pulp inlet is in the bottom of wall 25, a baffle plate (15) being provided to make the pulp flow tangentially into the chamber.
