Abstract

1457667 Headbox for paper-making machine BELOIT CORP 6 March 1974 [7 March 1973] 10112/74 Heading D2A In a headbox 11 for a papermaking machine including a slice chamber 11a, a slice opening S and trailing members 25-27 positioned in the slice chamber, the members being anchored at their upstream ends, e.g. on a plate 15, but being unsupported at their downstream ends, those portions 37 of the members adjacent the side walls 33 of the slice chamber extend further downstream than portions of the members further from the side walls. This ensures a uniform stock flow rate onto the wire F across the width of the machine. The members 25-27 may each extend across the whole width of the headbox 11 (Fig. 2), or may be composed of multiple strands (Fig. 5 not shown). Stock is supplied to slice chamber 11a from a tapered cross-machine header 12 via diffuser nozzles 14, preslice chamber 11b and the perforated plate 15. Transverse rods 22-14 upstream of the plate 15 prevent aacummulation of fibres on the upstream side of the plate.
