Abstract

1345420 Paper-making apparatus J M VOITH GmbH 19 April 1971 [18 Feb 1970 29 July 1970] 21782/71 Heading D2A Apparatus for supplying stock to a papermaking machine comprises a stock supply duct 1 communicating with a stock discharge duct 8 through converging rows of ducts 7. The sum of the areas of the outlets of the ducts 7 is substantially equal to the area of the adjacent end of the discharge duct. The duct 1 supplies stock to the ducts 7 through manifold pipes 5 and a mixing chamber 6, and the duct 8 terminates in a slit nozzle 9. The ducts 7 may be circular, rectangular or pentagonal, Figs. 3 to 6 (not shown). In a second embodiment, Fig. 7 (not shown), there are three rows of the ducts 7, each row being individually connected to the supply duct via manifold pipes. The upstream end portions of the ducts 7 may be of diminishing cross-sectional area. In a third embodiment, Fig. 9 (not shown), two rows of manifold pipes respectively connect the supply duct to two rows of the ducts 7 via mixing chambers.
