Abstract

A plurality of pipes feed stock to, and across the width of, a headbox from the base of a container in the top of which a stock feed tube is positioned. The container is either open to the atmosphere, or closed and subjected to vacuum or pressure, is circular in horizontal cross-section, and has the apertures for the pipes in the base arranged in a circle or circles concentric with the axis of the container. The feed tube preferably extends nearly to the base of the container with the end being surrounded by an anti-splash ring. The inlet of the head-box increases in cross-section and is partitioned into compartments - one for each feed pipe. The feed tube may extend downwardly from a supply box having an overflow weir. A valve may be positioned in the feed tube, or at the end thereof in the container.
