This invention relates to a method and devices for charging cellulose boilers and the like by using steam for the packing of the wood chips in the boiler as for instance is shown in the American PatentNo. 1,593,147.
According to the present invention two adjustable jets of steam are caused to coast in such a way that they together assume the shape of a conical mantel surface, which is enlarged downwards, and that the top angle of said mantel surface is enlarged according as the boiler is filled with wood chips in order to obtain the most favourable distribution of the wood chips during the entire charging of the boiler. Suitably a tube shaped et of steam, which is directed downwards is caused to assume the shape of a conical mantel surface thereby, that another tube shaped.

If the pressure of the u ward jet of steam is increased the top ang e of the conical mantel surface is increased and vice versa. A jet of steam in the form of a disc or a conical mantel surface, which is enlarged downwards is actuated by a downwards directed, tube shaped et of steam in such a way, that the former et of steam at the beginning of the charging of the boiler with wood chips, forms the mantle surface of an elongated cone, the topangle of which is increased, according as the wood chlpsare charged into the boiler, by diminishing the pressure of the downwards directed jet of as steam.
In the accompanylng drawings are shown schematically two embodiments for performing the method.
Figs. 1 and 3 show the first embodiment, Fig. 1 is a vertical section through the lower part of the device, and Fig. 3 a cross sect1on along the line 2-2 in Flg. 1.
The device consists of an outer, wider p1pe a and a narrower pipe b inserted in the former. The free end of the pipe 6 pro ects beyond the mouth of the pipe a, and the lower part of the pipe b is held centred, su tably by means of radial supports a. The p1pe I in the lower part outside the mouth of the wider pipe, is provided with side openings d, and
its mouth is closed by a cap e, which leaves a ring shaped space with less diameter than that of the wider pipe in communication with the inside of the pipe 6 by the openings d. Both pipes are connected to a steam piping.- Steam is supplied adjustably to both pipes and flows out partly through the space between the outer and the inner ipe, partly through the ring shaped space etween the pipe I) and the cap 6. Both ets of steam meet each other, and by suitably regulating the steam a more or less conical downwards enlarged mantle surface of steam can be obtained, which steam distributes the falling wood chips.
Figs. 2, 4 show the other embodiment. Fig. 2 is a vertical section through the lower part of the device, and Fig. 4 a cross section along the line 4-4 in Fig. 2.
As in the former case the device consists of an outer wider pipe a and an inner narrower pipe b, to which steam can adjustably be supplied. The free end of the pipe b projects beyond the mouth of the pipe a, and the lower part of the pipe I; is held centred, suitably by means of radial supports 0. The pipe 6, in its-lower part, is provided with openings d, which lead to a ring shaped slot f arranged between an adjustable, suitably conical nut .g and a cap h closing the end of so the pipe. The 'nut may be omitted, in which 'case a greater number of openings is arranged in the pipe b, suitably in two or three rows fixed above each otherI The pipes a and b may each be provided with valves (not shown), or they may have a common adjusting member, arranged to be actuated manuallyor automatically by an electrically\ actuated or spring actuated device, whic is arranged on the charging device, or by another power source from which the driving power is transmitted by means of a belt or the like, whereb the setting of the adjustin member is ma e in tim'ed relation to the fifiing of the boiler.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A device for filling boilers for cellulose and the like by using steam for the packing 100 of the wood chips in the boiler, said device comprising two concentric pipes spaced from each other and providing between them an annular steam-supply opening, said pipes being adapted to be arranged centrally in the neck of the boiler, the free end of the inner smaller pipe projecting beyond the end of the outer larger pipe, the projecting ed of the inner pipe being provlded with side openings, and means associated with said pipe for closing the end thereof and providing a ring-shaped radially-extending steam delivery space which communicates with the inner tube through said side opening, whereby the steam issuing simultaneously from both pipes forms a .conical sheet by which the wood chips are packed into the boiler.
2. A device for filling boilers for cellulose and the like by using steam for the (packing of the wood chips in the-boiler, sai device comprising two concentrically arranged pipes adapted to be placed centrally invthe neck of the boiler, radial supports separating'said pipes, the space between them constituting an annular space'for the delivery ofi steam, the inner pipe projecting beyond the outer pipe and provided with side openings, a cap closing the end of the inner pipe,
and means associated with said cap for providing a ring-like opening communicating with the side openings of the inner pipe and through which steam is delivered from the inner pipe in an outwardly-diverging circular jet which intersects the radial jet of steam delivered from the annular space between the pipes thereby forming a conical sheet.
3. The method of filling boilers for cellu lose and the like by using steam for the packing of the wood chips in the boiler, which consists in delivering the steam into the neck of the boiler in two outwardly-diverging nonparallel annular jets which intersect each other, and thereby form a cone-shaped sheet which engages the chips and packs them into the boiler and regulating the relative pressure of the steam forming each annular jet thereby varying the shape of the conical sheet.
