Abstract

1,138,683. Web coating apparatus. PARSONS & WHITTEMORE (FRANCE). 19 Dec., 1965, No. 44350/65. Heading D1L. Web coating apparatus (Fig. 1), particularly for applying glue to corrugated cardboard, comprises at least two coating rollers 2 and 3, the peripheral speed of one being lower and the peripheral speed of the other being higher than the speed of advancement of the web to be coated so that the web remains taut between the coating rollers. The coating rollers may be spaced apart or arranged adjacent (Fig. 2) such that one acts as a doctor roller to the other and the web may be held in contact with the coating rollers by pressure applying rollers 19, 20 mounted on an arm 21, the pressure exerted by said rollers being adjustable by thrust bearings 22. In this embodiment the spacing between the rollers is adjustable to vary the coating thickness.
