948,448. Coating webs. KIMBERLYCLARK CORPORATION. May 3, 1960 [May 11, 1959], No. 15572/60. Heading D1L. Paper 22 is coated while passing between an applicator roll 16 and a backing roll 18, the paper being maintained in contact with the roll 18 for an angular distance of at least 45 degrees on either side of the nip, which is maintained at an operating pressure of between 2 and 20 pounds per linear inch, the coating being bladed at an angular distance of 45 degrees, at least from the nip. In the form shown the coating material 10 is fed to the roll 16 from the nip between rollers 12, 14. The roll 18 and preferably also the roll 16 has a resilient coating. Both rolls may be positively driven, the roll 18 at a slightly higher peripheral speed.
