Abstract

[Also in Division G2] The surface of a roller intended especially for use in a photographic film drier is formed with grooves for the reception of strips, of resilient material which normally project beyond the surface of the roller but are compressed during the passage of the sheet, the subsequent elastic recovery of the strips preventing adhesion of the sheet to the roller and consequent deviation from the desired direction of movement. As shown in Fig. 3 the resilient strips 26, preferably made from polyurethene foam, are in the form of rings let into annular grooves 26 in the roller surface. Alternatively the grooves may be of helical form, Fig. 8, showing an arrangement in which strips 46, 50 are let into double helical grooves 44, 48. Preferably the width of the strips is slightly less than that of the grooves to allow lateral expansion. When applied to a film drier, Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown), the film is fed between a succession of pairs of geared lower and upper rollers 14, 18, Fig. 3, with the strips arranged in staggered formation.
