Abstract

840,586. Printing surfaces. LEVEY CO Inc., F. H. April 28, 1958 [May 9, 1957], No. 13404/58. Class 100(2) A printing plate lock-up for a rotary printing machine includes a pair of plate gripping shafts 11 mounted in, and extending axially along, the printing cylinder 1, one pair of shaft ends being mounted for rotation and the other pair being mounted for movement transversely of the axis of the cylinder. The cylinder 1 is supported at each end in the machine side frame by means of journals 3 and has a longitudinal section cut away and replaced by face plate 8 spaced apart to provide a slot 7 and a chamber 9 in which are housed parallel shafts 11. The face plates are secured to the cylinder by bolts 10. One end of the parallel shafts is supported by a journal block 13 adapted to be moved transversely of the cylinder axis by adjustment bolts 14 and to be held in adjusted position by screws 15. The other ends of the shafts 11 are secured to lever arms 16 equipped with rotatable lugs 19 threaded to receive turn bolts 20, the other ends of which are threaded into lugs 21 on plates 22 secured to the end of the cylinder 1. Rotation of bolt heads 24 thus causes rotation of levers 16 to tension a plate, skewing being effected by adjustment of the block 13. The shafts 11 have slots 25 cut therealong to receive the inner ends of pairs of clamping plates 26 between which the edges of the printing places 6 are inserted. The outermost clamping plate of each pair has an extended tapered edge substantially flush with the surface of the cylinder. Specification 770,125 is referred to.
