Abstract

925,195. Container closures; resilientwalled containers. UNILEVER Ltd. Oct. 5, 1959 [Oct. 3, 1958], No. 31690/58. Classes 66 and 125(3). A collapsible tube 1 of resilient material, e.g. polythene coated internally with polyvinylidene chloride, comprises a non-return valve having a movable member 11 with resilient legs 15 urging the member 11 on to its seating. The member 11, which is of plasticized p.v.c., has a locating spike 12 which functions as a needle valve in a port 5 of the tube 1. A cap 7, of wood-filled urea-formaldehyde resin, may be screwed down to compress the legs 15 and so close the valve, a slight unscrewing of the cap allowing the valve to open when the tube is squeezed. In a further embodiment, Fig. 6, a unit 23 is secured by adhesive in the neck 21 of a tube 20, and the valve member 29 is positioned on its seating by a skirt 31. Again the movable valve may comprise a disc with an annular groove in its side away from its seating; the free ends of resilient legs slide in the groove, the opposite ends of the legs being integral with an annular plate. According to the Provisional Specification the valve member may be ball-like and the resilient legs may be in the form of a single cylinder having holes or slots cut in its wall to give it resiliency; or again, the legs may be replaced by a spongelike or spring member.
