Abstract

880,047. Bottle closures. GELBJERGHANSEN, P., and MEYENDORFF, H., [trading as F. G. M. & CO., I/S.]. Sept. 14, 1959 [Sept. 16, 1958 ; April 25, 1959 ; May 25, 1959], No. 31227/59. Class 125(3). A bottle cap of plastics material designed to resist internal pressure from gaseous liquids comprises a top having a flat upper surface and merging, through a curved intermediate portion, with a skirt 14 below which is a clamping bead 16 adapted to grip the neck of a standard bottle below the bottle neck bead. The cap may be moulded from rubber or other elastomeric material or from a synthetic thermoplastic polymer. In a modification, the cap has an annular lining 42 which may have a film or plate 50 covering the central aperture therein, Fig. 3, or the lining may be spaced from the internal wall of the skirt 14, Fig. 6 (not shown), except where secured thereto by welding or adhesive means. In a further modification, Fig. 7, the lining 42 has a sealing flange 62, a supporting portion 64 and a bead 66 engaged in a groove 68 in the bead 16 of the cap. Again, Fig. 8, the lining may be in the form of a film 74 of soft plastics material, e.g. rubber or p.v.c., applied on the inner side of the skirt 14 which is first roughened, and the cap may have a depending annular flange 78.
