Abstract

1282754 Caps for containers MARDON ILLINGWORTH Ltd 10 Nov 1969 [2 April 1969] 17267/69 Heading B8T A cap which is a moulding of a synthetic resin plastics material, comprises a domed crown 12 and a skirt 13 which has alternate fluted portions (15), Fig. 4 (not shown). When applying the cap to a bottleneck 10, the crown 12 is depressed to position 12a, the cap is then placed over the opening and the skirt 13 compressed inwardly to the position shown in full lines. Internal gaseous pressure in the bottle causes the dome 12 to bow outwards as indicated by the arrow A, Fig. 7, to position 12b, the skirt 13 contracting inwardly such that bead 24 reaches position 26b. Removal of the cap is effected by pressing down on the crown 12 thereby causing the skirt 13 to snap outwards.
