Abstract

868,182. Squeeze-to-use containers. LAND, W. H. Oct. 9, 1959 [Oct. 13, 1958], No. 34247/59. Class 66. A tube of resilient plastics material, e.g. "Polythene'' (Registered Trade Mark) or polyvinyl chloride has a non-return valve unit consisting of a disc 8 apertured at 12 and a displaceable membrane or flap 13 secured by heat sealing to the disc, so that when some of the tube contents are squeezed out the flap 13 is returned to its seating by atmospheric pressure on the paste between the valve unit and the tube nozzle, thereby preventing the compressed part of the tube from returning to its original shape. The disc 8 which may have stiffening ribs on its inner face, is held in a groove 9 and against ribs 11 formed in the top wall of the tube. Alternatively, Fig. 3 (not shown), the disc 8 may fit into a separately formed member which has a stepped shoulder engaging a corresponding shoulder on the top wall of the tube. In a further modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the disc 8 has a rim fitting in a recess in the top wall of the tube. The tube may have a lining of aluminium foil, and may be of square, oval or circular cross-section.
