Abstract
888,401. Portable containers ; packaging. S. E. B. ESTABLISHMENT. May 22, 1959 [May 23, 1958], No. 17555/59. Classes 66 and 94(1). A fluid container of deformable material has a resilient membrane 5 capable of taking up two stable positions i.e. a convex position, as shown in Fig. 1, for filling the container, and a concave position, Fig. 2 (not shown), when it is pressed inwards after filling. The pressure set up by the container contents tends to bulge the membrane 5 outwards from its concave position, Fig. 3 (not shown). In a modification the base, which may be of non-deformable metal or plastics, has a deformable membrane at its centre ; and the central area of the membrane may be reinforced. The base may be attached to the container body by screwing, riveting, gluing, or welding. The container may be of plastics material ; or it may be a can and have two deformable membranes.
