Class 125(iii) A stopper 2 for milk bottles &c. 1, 11, consists of a cup-shaped member of indiarubber or like material, adapted to enter the neck of the container with an upper bead or rim 3 to bear upon the edge of the neck, and a bead 4 between the upper bead or rim and a thickened bottom 5 which is substantially thicker than the portions 6, 7 uniting it to the upper bead or rim and the thickened bottom, the external diameter of the cup, downwards from the upper bead or rim, first diminishing and then increasing to form the lower bead 4. The thickened bottom 5 has a downwardly directed convexity. The stopper is inserted by pressing downwardly on the portion 5 to reduce the diameter of the bead 4 which then makes a fluid-tight joint with the container when the pressure is released, and is removed by first reducing the diameter of bead 4 in similar manner. The bead 4 has an extra thickness 4<SP>1</SP> which is rounded or formed with a tip, and when the stopper is inserted part 6 is drawn out and part 7 compressed so that they act on the bead to give fluid-tightness, and if the container is upset the contents acting on the bottom 5 hold the stopper more firmly in position. The rim 10 may overlap the edge of the container, as in Fig. 6, so that it may be removed without the operator contaminating the container edge. The upper part of the stopper may be conoidal as at 13 in Fig. 8, or be turned back as at 14. Two or more beads 4 may be formed as shown in Fig. 9.
