Abstract

384,774. Bottle closures. EARL, R. T., 81, Islington Row, Birmingham. Aug. 17, 1932, No. 32302/31. [Class 125 (iii).] In a bottle closure of the type comprising a circular cap 1 having a bead 3 retaining a washer 2, the cap being pivotally mounted on a bail 9 the ends of which are connected to an operating member 12 which is pivoted on the bottle neck, the bail 9 and the member 12 forming a toggle-lever, the bead 3 has an inner portion 16 co-operating with the outer surface of the bottle neck to provide an annular space having converging sides into which the lower circumferential edge 19 of the washer is compressed when the closure is applied. The closure may be applied to a partially evacuated bottle-e.g. a milk bottle heated to sterilize the contents.
