Abstract

974,297. Stoppers. JONKOPINGS VACUUMINDUSTRIE A.B. May 7, 1963 [May 25, 1962], No. 18075/63. Heading B8T. A closure device for a container for fluid under pressure comprises a valve member having a plug portion 4 connecting it to the container, a sealing lip 10 and a sealing surface 7, both of which engage with a surface 11 at the neck of the container when the plug is screwed to its lowest position, and an expansion chamber 12. When the valve member is unscrewed to a partly open position, as shown in Fig. 2, the sealing surface 7 lifts off the surface 11 allowing gas or liquid under pressure to flow through a slot 5 in the plug portion into the expansion chamber 12. After a first expansion, the liquid will flow back into the container so that on further unscrewing of the valve member the lip 10 will disengage to allow excess pressure to escape. The surface 11 may be the upper surface of a plastics annular socket 2 or may be part of the container neck itself. Channels may be provided in the annular socket, instead of the slot 5. The plug need not be of the screw type.
