A through flow appliance has a mounting comprising a separate independent casing 1b supported coaxially at 3 within an outer casing 1a to form an annular space therebetween, the casings having coaxial reduced lower ends, 1c and 1d, for connection to the corresponding coaxial inlet and outlet conduits of an adaptor g connected to a pipeline (not shown) and the end 1d of the inner easing forming one element of a spigot and socket joint with the inner coaxial conduit 9a of the adaptor. The outer end 1c connects with the adaptor 9 by way of a screwed ring 7 and packing 18. The inner casing, which in the example illustrated comprises a water-meter 2, is retained in the outer casing by a screwed cap 6 with a glass lid 5 through which the dial of the meter can be seen.
