Abstract
915,712. Windows. SAHLERTZ, E. H. Aug. 3, 1961 [Aug. 4, 1960], No. 28171/61. Class 20 (3). The hermetically-sealed space between the panes 3, 4 of a double-glazed window can be put into communication with a chamber 14 included in or carried by the sash frame 2 to allow granulate material such as small glass beads, which has heat reduction, reflecting and absorbing properties while transmitting light, to enter the space between the panes 3, 4 from the chamber and vice versa. As shown, the sash frame 2 is pivoted about a horizontal axis on pins 12 and the chamber is disposed on the upper side of the sash when this latter is closed and is separated from the space by a valve flap 15 fitted tightly to one plane 3 and extends across and rests upon the top edge of the other pane 4, being weighted by a rod 16 so that when the flap is lifted by a lever system 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, the glass beads 24 will flow into the space between the panes 3, 4. To empty the space, the window sash is reversed, the flap opening under the weight of the rod 16. On righting the sash again the flap closes. The upper wall of the chamber 14 consists of a resilient wall 25 fastened to the inside of the chamber for pressure equalization between the air in the space and that in the chamber, a hole 28 connecting the space above the wall 25 with the external air. The transference of the beads may be by pump action.
