914,439. Valves. THANING, N. O. Dec. 28, 1960, No. 44479/60. Class 135. A valve is formed with a composite deformable plug comprising an outer deformable sleeve 5 sealingly secured at its ends 7 by screw caps 10, 11 around opposite apertures 9 in the wall of the flow passage 2, 3 and a deformable member 6 within the sleeve which is deformed by operating mechanism, e.g. handle 17 screwing on spindle 13 to compress member 6 between washer 14 and spindle flange 12, whereby the sleeve closes an annular path around the plug. By unscrewing cap 15, the operating mechanism may be withdrawn from the fixed sleeve. Member 6 may contain annular pockets 34, preferably fluid-filled. In another embodiment, member 6 may be a sleeve compressed between two nuts on oppositely screwed portions of a spindle carrying one handle or a handle at each end, the sleeve 5 being constrained to distort across the flow passage by streamlined inlet and outlet guides.
