911,720. Cleaning metals. UNITED STATES STEEL CORPORATION. Jan. 19, 1959, No. 1971/59. Class 41. [Also in Group II] Prior to coating with aluminium by a vapour deposition process (see Group II) steel strip is continuously fed through an alkaline electrolytic cleaning tank 14, a water-rinse tank 15, an acid electrolytic pickling tank 16 and a water-rinse tank 17. Tank 14 contains a solution of 3-5 ozs./gallon of sodium anthasilicate at 150- 200‹ F. and the strip is made the anode at a current density of 300 amps/sq. ft. Tank 16 contains a 10% solution of sulphuric acid the strip being the cathode and the current density is 250 amps/sq. ft.
