An electrolytic wound-foil capacitor has an etched anode foil 5 and a plain cathode foil interwound with separators 7 maintained saturated by immersion in an electrolyte 8 which consists of a mixture of strong aqueous solutions of one or more of ammonium acetate, ammonium citrate, ammonium borate or other weak-acid salt which does not greatly attack the anode. Desirable proportions are listed.
